Installation information for stone wall tiles
When installing stone tiles you need to consider that the existing or new wall can carry the
weight of the stone. The following factors should be considred.
You can still install stone on the following substrates but careful consideration of the following
must be adhered to:
Sand Cement Render
The stone must be no thicker than 15mm (no greater than the weight of 38kg/m2). The stone must not be installed higher than 3.6 metres with suitable wall tile adhesive. To fix 20mm Stone tiles to the wall you will need to reinforce the render with stainless steel. All new renders need 2 to 4 weeks to dry.
Plasterboard
Plaster board that has not been skimmed can take a maximum load bearing of 32kg/m2. Most stones of 10mm are in this range. Paper faced board should be sealed to manufacturers specification. A suitable wall tile adhesive should be used.
